At my (daily) Tesco-visit, I got stuck today at the chicken department. I was given the option to buy chicken from the UK, Holland or Poland. As I always freak out of the bloody parts that seems to be included in the price, I would have chosen the less "bloody one", but unfortunately those parts are always on the bottom of the package so I had to come up with another selection criteria. Being Dutch from origin, it would have made sense to go for the chicken from Holland. But living in the UK, I do have to integrate in the British society as much as possible. Chicken from Poland? Hm, all I have ever heard (yes completely unfounded) is that they fancy the use of growth hormones. Which could also be a good choice as I am hardly tall enough to put something in my shopping trolley.
I do know that the UK is producing a lot of chicken(meat), Tesco claims 90% of the chicken they sell is from the UK. So importing it from all over Europe doesn't seems to make any sense.
So I have sent the costumer service desk of Tesco an email to ask the difference and the reason for sending the chicken on a European road trip.
Will keep you posted on their response.
(And I bought 1 Dutch one and 1 British one, a very Dutch way of solving dilemma's)

I should say don't buy any chicken in the supermarkets. They are badly very badly mistreated in all the countries.Buying industry chicken is absolutely unethical!
In my opinion you can buy only "green" very well treated chickens. And yes they are expensive, but most people are rich enough.

the internationally acclaimed polder model! Buying the one with no plastic wrapping or styrofoam platter could also be the best one... who knows, I need a supermarket chicken app!
