I think there is only one proper sustainable way of saving fish and wild life in the ocean: Leave them there! There must be a reason why they are in the sea and not in our back yard, like cows and chicken, so we should respect that and never eat fish again. I, however, have to admit that my main reason for this is that I just don't like to the taste of it.
But there is good news for sustainable McDonald lovers, although I am probably the only one..., McDonalds will transform their Filet-o-Fish into a sustainable fish burger!
McDonald’s said that it has reached a deal which a nonprofit organisation that will certify the sustainability of the catch that is used for each of the 100 million fish sandwiches the chain sells in Europe every year. Beginning in October, the blue eco-label of the Marine Stewardship Council will appear on the wrappers of McDonald’s Europe’s Filet-o-Fish sandwiches.... (source NY Times)
And it might surprise the cynical readers, according to the McDonalds website the Filet O-Fish is made of 75% fish! Well done, but I will still be loyal to my save-the-ocean-tactic and stick to the Big Mac!

I prefer the green salad with thousand island dressing!

Mind you! A chicken Caesar salad with dressing and croutons contains 425 calories and 21.4g of fat, compared with 253 calories and 7.7g of fat in a standard hamburger. Add a portion of fries to your burger and the calorie count climbs to 459, but is still less fatty than the salad at 16.7g.

I love the 75% fish. What is the rest made of? Just looked it up:
Hoki or Alaskan Pollock (75%)
Wheat Flour, Water, Modified Wheat Starch, Cornflour, Salt, Corn Starch, Yeast, Stabiliser (Carboxy Methyl Cellulose). (25%)

Think the Modified Wheat Starch sounds a bit scary... (and so does the Carboxy Methyl Cellulose, is that what they take out at a liposuction?)

I like the initiative they have undertaken. I agree, fish should be in the ocean or sea. There is a reason why they are there.
